DATE: July 1, 2011

(Taylor County, KY)—The Taylor County Tourist Commission is pleased to announce that Taylor County is featured prominently on the Travel Kentucky application for iPhone, iPad, iTouch and Google Android smartphone technologies.

Created by Kentucky Monthly magazine, Travel Kentucky showcases statewide tourism destinations through a combination of themed tours, searchable category directories, and real-time, GPS-triggered, turn by turn directional routing.

The app is available now on iTunes and the Android Marketplace as a free download.

Taylor County is featured in the app’s “City Guides,” providing users with a full directory of all Taylor County’s attractions, restaurants, shops, lodging, and much more.

Taylor County’s participation on the app provides a new and unique way for Taylor County to be marketed to visitors, as the app works to connect users to destinations that they are interested in by topic, what is nearby, and by themed tours.

“Our goal for Travel Kentucky is to help visitors find and explore destinations that they may never have heard of before,” said Kentucky Monthly publisher Steve Vest. “By exploring themed tours and searching for subjects of interest on the app, we hope to expand visitors’ awareness of the communities and attractions we have here in Kentucky.”

For more information about Travel Kentucky, or to have your destination listed, please contact app@kentuckymonthly.com or call 888-329-0053.

About Kentucky Monthly Magazine

Founded in 1998, Kentucky Monthly celebrates the people, places, events, and culture of the Commonwealth, reaching more than 132,000 readers. Our slogan is “Uniting Kentuckians Everywhere” focusing on Kentucky today, while not forgetting the people and events that shaped our heritage. Kentucky Monthly has partnered with BarZ Adventures for app development within the state. Connect with Kentucky Monthly through www.kentuckymonthly.com or call 1-888-329-0053.

About Taylor County Tourist Commission

The Taylor County Tourist Commission, founded in 1992, is funded by a 3% transient room tax paid only by those who lodge in Taylor County. The tax is not paid by Taylor County residents — unless they are staying over night in a Taylor County lodging facility. The Taylor County Tourist Commission’s purpose is to promote the economic growth of Taylor County through expenditure of the 3% transient room tax for the sole purpose of promoting tourist activity to the area. The Commission strives to increase business to every establishment that directly or indirectly serves the traveling public and extend the hand of welcome to all visitors and visitor prospects by keeping the highest traditions of hospitality expected of our area, and in keeping with fair and honest business practices.

The Bass Federation has chosen Green River Lake as the site for their 2011 Southern Division Championship bass tournament. Official practice dates are May 29, 30 and 31. Dates for the tournament are Wednesday, Thurs and Friday. June 1-3, 2011. Boats will launch each morning from Green River Lake State Park at 6 a.m, and anglers will compete for approximately 8 hours each day with a weigh-in each afternoon around 2:30 p.m. The competitive field will consist of over 100 anglers from the states of KY,TN, AL, FL, SC, NC and GA. Anglers were required to qualify for this event by competing in a series of qualifying tournaments in various regions across the state. The field of anglers and co-anglers in this Southern Division Championship tournament represents the best competitive bass anglers in the each state.

The Taylor County Tourist Commission is sponsoring the tournament. The economic impact of competitive sport fishing is significant, with anglers typically visiting tournament lakes and the related communities for many weeks (multiple visits) in preparation for a tournament of this magnitude. Lodging, food, and retail establishments who cater to the competitive sport angler certainly benefit from these repeated visits to our host community. This event will bring over 100 anglers with their families to Taylor County for over a week.
