Nestled in the heart of the Bluegrass, Campbellsville is one of Kentucky’s best-kept secrets. With plenty to explore and experience, it’s no wonder visitors keep coming back to this unique part of the state.
At its core, Campbellsville is an oasis for outdoor adventure. Come explore Green River Lake State Park, offering 8,200 acres of beauty and excitement! Two of the county’s eight campgrounds can be found lakeside, offering adventure-seekers a front row seat to all the recreational opportunities Green River Lake has to offer. The lake is also home to Kentucky’s only floating cabins, accommodations custom-made for outdoor enthusiasts!
With an average depth of 50 feet and a distance of one mile at its widest point, Green River Lake is a popular destination for fishing, boating and water skiing – with 40 miles of trails that twist around the picture-perfect spot. Visitors can explore the terrain by hiking, mountain biking, even horseback riding. Looking for a little R&R? Public beaches at Lone Valley Campground, Pikes Ridge Campground and Smith Ridge Recreational Area are a welcome respite on a warm summer day.
Campbellsville’s Civil War historic sites are also not to be missed. Confederate General John Hunt Morgan began his raid into Indiana and Ohio from what is now known as Tebbs Bend Battlefield on July 4, 1863. The Battle at Tebbs Bend has been called “one of the most outstanding small victories in the Civil War.” Visitors can step back in time on a 3-mile driving tour dotted with interpretive markers depicting key events of this battle, and they can request a key to visit the 1840 Atkinson-Griffin Log House, which served as a Confederate hospital after the battle and now houses memorabilia and artifacts for visitors to enjoy.
The reverence for history continues in Campbellsville’s downtown, where many buildings are noted on the National Register of Historic Places. Main Street hums with the bustle of shops and eateries in a charming small-town atmosphere. Visitors can experience a rejuvenating day one of our spas, then dine in downtown Campbellsville, one of Kentucky’s only “moist” towns, where you can enjoy a drink at restaurants offering a wide variety of flavors to savor.
Unlock a window to the past. Experience the charm of a bygone era. Refresh and revitalize. And be sure to bring your taste for outdoor adventure! Campbellsville is one of Kentucky’s great destinations!
