Green River Lake Visitor Center

Located near the Dam, the Green River Lake Visitor Center is a free must-visit attraction open to the public. Inside, you'll find captivating exhibits, including Native American artifacts, a live beehive tree display, a turtle exhibit, water safety information, and a spectacular 1500-gallon fish aquarium. Don't miss the opportunity to catch a movie about Green River Lake in the on-site theater.


Outside, explore the historic Atkinson Griffin Log house, once a Civil War hospital, or enjoy a picnic amidst the natural beauty. Hiking enthusiasts can explore nearby trails, and the Center serves as an information hub for everything related to Green River Lake and its surroundings.

  • Picnic Shelter Rentals: The Visitor Center shelter is available for special occasions and gatherings. To reserve, call 1-877-444-6777 or visit www.recreation.gov. Unreserved shelters are free on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Amenities at the Visitor Center include restrooms, grills, tables, a playground, horseshoe pits, parking, electric access, a log cabin, lakeside trail access, and a breathtaking overlook of Green River Lake.
  • Additional picnic shelters are also available in the Green River Lake area, including Satterly Shelter, Big Oak Shelter, Green River Tailwater Shelter, and Holmes Bends Shelter, each offering unique lakeside experiences.
