About Campbellsville

THINGS TO KNOW

Campbellsville was founded in 1817 by a man named – you guessed it – Campbell. Andrew Campbell, to be exact – a local gristmill and tavern owner.

Geographically, Campbellsville finds itself situated virtually dead center on the Kentucky map.

In fact, the city’s motto is Urbs progrediens media in civitate, and if you don’t know Latin, that’s okay. It simply means “City in the middle of the Commonwealth.” Not the catchiest motto ever devised, but extremely accurate nonetheless.

For residents and visitors alike, Campbellsville offers year-round outdoor adventure – whether it’s camping, hiking, boating, fishing or water sports on and around beautiful Green River Lake State Park.

Of course, that’s just scratching the surface of all Campbellsville has to offer. There’s vibrant downtown Campbellsville, a bustling college campus, an historic Civil War battlefield, plentiful places to eat and shop, the state’s largest 4th of July celebration, and a wide range of lodging options.

What’s more, Campbellsville is an an easy drive to other Kentucky destinations like Bardstown, Lexington and Louisville – making it the ideal hub for all kinds of Kentucky getaways.

So welcome to Campbellsville. Let your adventure begin.
