Outdoor Activities in Kentucky - the fun starts in Campbellsville, Taylor County and Green River Lake.

Kentucky Farm Tours include Homeplace on Green River a Campbellsville outdoor activity.

Begin Your Kentucky outdoor adventure with a farm tour in historic Campbellsville, Kentucky.

Spring is the season for planting, for emerging from the winter’s cold, and for planning for warm weather getaways and Green River Lake Kentucky vacations.  It’s a great time to get your family outside for fun and educational adventures with Kentucky farm tours -- there are so many opportunities around Campbellsville and surrounding Taylor County to enjoy the countryside and scenic farms, many with picturesque quilt barns.

Be sure to mark your calendars for the Homeplace on Green River Spring Plow Day, Saturday April 20.

This educational craft and music festival focuses on preserving our rural agricultural heritage. Not only will your family learn about the history of this 200+ year-old continuously working farm on your farm tour, but you can observe the field preparations and plowing with actual mule and horse-drawn plow teams as they get ready for planting.

There will also be tons of family-friendly activities…hayrides, crafts, lots of food, and live music on the lawn in the afternoon and evening. Don’t miss this unique Kentucky outdoor adventure and a fun and engaging way to share our agricultural roots with your family.

Homeplace on Green River is adjacent to historic Tebbs Bend battlefield, a significant event in Kentucky Civil War history.

While you have your calendar handy, save the date for the
Heartland Homesteading Conference at Homeplace on Green River, Central Kentucky’s third annual Homesteading conference. This hands-on workshop offers information on a wide variety of topics and provides knowledge to develop your homesteading skills. Registration is now open for this family-friendly conference, scheduled for November 8-10, 2024, with camping sites on the historic farm available.

  • The Farmers Market Association, Inc. of Taylor County.

Be sure to stop by the Farmers Market Saturdays mid-April to November, from 8am-2pm EST. You’ll find fresh quality produce, tons of activities and entertainment, and the best part is that you will help provide the small farmer with a profitable income. Everyone is a winner!

  • Penn’s Hams

A family-owned and operated business for over 60 years, Penn’s is home to the Kentucky State Fair Million Dollar Ham

The farm has been in the Penn family since the land was granted to Colonel Gabriel Penn in the early 1800’s for military service in Virginia during the American Revolutionary war. The family began curing and providing hams in their retail store in the mid 1800’s. Penn’s Country Hams cured products are still made the old-fashioned way.
